Restoration works of I. Temple of Zoodochos Pigi Kato Patisia. Implementation of the project with funding from a private sponsor, under the supervision of EFAATH
The Church of Zoodochos Pigis in Kato Patisia is a wooden-roofed single-aisled basilica with a three-sided arch, which preserves the remains of fresco decoration. Restoration work was carried out in the temple, which included the removal of newer additions, fixing of masonry, replacement of the roof, restoration of the western facade, fixing and maintenance of the surviving mural decoration as well as shaping the surrounding area. As part of the project, an excavation survey was also carried out, during which architectural elements of older phases were revealed, especially on the eastern side, remains of two arches, which were buried. Burials and enough skeletal material were also found from excavations, evidence for the use of the temple as a cemetery.
