Project “Creation of Museum Repositories and Consolidation of Departments of the Archaeological Area of the Plato Academy” Sub-project with implementing agency E.A.Ath. “Works for the creation of museum warehouses – Consolidation and promotion of part of the Archaeological Area of the Plato Academy”

The main purpose of the project was to liberate built-up space by demolishing old buildings and unifying it with the rest of the Archaeological Site of the Plato Academy. In the landscaped green space, with an area of approximately 3.5 acres, a metal pavilion was built that houses a small exhibition with visual material about the history of the Academy and acts as a “compass” for the visitor’s tour.

A second point of intervention was the area of the monuments of the proto-Hellenic “House of the Academy” and the geometric “Holy House”. In the first one, work was done to fix the foundation stones and a new protection canopy was placed, replacing the old one, and in the second one, as the optimal solution, it was chosen to keep it buried, with rendering of its plan on the surface with a different material. At the same time, the surrounding area was arranged with a drainage system, with plantings and paths, which facilitate access and browsing of the monuments.
In the context of the primary care of our Ephorate for the formation of new infrastructures to serve its archaeological work, the construction of a new museum warehouse, with an area of 600 sq.m., on Drakontos and Iphigeneias Street, has been implemented, where space has also been planned for the implementation of educational programs .
Also, a new archaeological warehouse was created in an existing building owned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. on 147 Monastiriou Street, and on 33-35 Drakontos Street, an existing warehouse was configured and equipped appropriately to function as a storage area for the numerous mosaics of the Ephorate.
