“Restoration, maintenance and promotion of the Odeum of Herodes of Atticus, the Stoa Eumenos and the Asklepiion of the South Slope of the Acropolis”

In the Conservatory of Herodes Atticus, the works included in principle the fixing and restoration of parts of the outer faces of the east and west frontal walls of the cave.
As part of the maintenance of the exteriors, mechanical, chemical and liquid cleanings, removal of older interventions, welding of fragments and application of grouts to internal voids and peelings were also carried out. In addition, Piraeus actite or artificial stone supplements were constructed, placed and fixed, in a total of twenty-five stone plinths of the eastern and western frontal walls. In the context of the same sub-project 1, specifically in the Stoa of Eumenes, the elongated two-story building in the area between the Conservatory and the Theater of Dionysos, maintenance-reinforcement work was carried out on the structural material, as well as the formation of stone supplements in the area of the ten surviving middle arches. A total of 56 stones were operated on in the areas of the arches (T29, T31 and T32) and in the pesses between them. The works initially included the systematic maintenance of the facade and interior of the vaults and stone plinths. This was followed by the restoration of the continuity of the arches by the manufacture, placement and fixation with titanium reinforcements of supplements from new Piraeus actite, in fifty members. In the lower layers, a visible part of the ancient stone plinths was left, on which the restored superimposed members were based, so that they could be a presumption of the level of construction of the ancient remains. The work was also extended in front of the pessos P18-19 and the arch T21 on the north wall, where a total of twelve full-length new members and five ancient stones were completed. Also, the restoration work on the north-east corner of the Stoa was completed and a rough route for visitors to the monument was laid out.

Restoration, maintenance and enhancement of the Asklepiion of the South Slope of the Acropolis

The works carried out as part of the project concerned the last phase of the temple of Asclepius and Hygieia. In particular, the wall of the nave was restored with twelve stones, where the ancient threshold of the church door was also included. Also, the base of the pilaster of the southern wall of the prostrate and the four bases of the Ionic columns of the four-columned facade were made of new marble, and the layer of the upright was reconstructed with fourteen stones. The stanchion members were nailed to the underlying masonry and connected to each other by means of longitudinal titanium links, while six cladding members were indicatively placed on the stanchion, in homologous positions.

A short path and a viewing platform for the public were created, where an information sign was placed.
