The project  <\/span>“Fixation\/restoration and Maintenance of the holy church of Ag. Theodoroi of Athens”<\/span><\/strong> was included in the Priority Axis “Improving the Quality of Life in the Urban Environment” of the  <\/span>Operational Program “Attica 2014-2020”<\/span><\/strong>  and is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.<\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The project concerns the fixing – restoration and maintenance of the I. N. Agioi Theodoros in the center of Athens, next to Klathmonos Square and has as its object the necessary interventions for fixing the monument, the maintenance of its written and sculptural decoration and its functional equipment (tableau \u2013 pulpit). The church of Saint Theodore, according to an inscription, dates back to 1049. Typologically, it follows a variant of the transitional type of the cruciform inscribed church, with a later addition of a belfry, on the south side. The frescoes of the monument, works of Ath. Kandris, date from the beginning of the 20th century. and are typical examples of the neoclassical\/Nazarene rhythms of the time, while the marble altarpiece and the marble pulpit of the church date from the late 19th to<\/sup>  early 20th century. It is an emblematic monument of the 11th century, a reference point in Byzantine architecture and a characteristic landmark of the historical center of the city of Athens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the project, the necessary operations will be carried out to fix the monument and preserve its mural and sculptural decoration, after the serious damage caused by time, seismic vibrations, various operations and environmental factors. The fixing and restoration issues of the temple will be effectively dealt with, the monument and the continuity of its presence will be ensured, while highlighting its importance for the art, history and life of the city.\u200b\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n
