“Maintenance and promotion of the Clock of Andronikos Kyrristos, in the archaeological site of the Roman Agora of Athens”<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

The need to comprehensively deal with the wear and tear problems faced by the Clock of Andronikos Kyrristos led to the realization of extensive maintenance work on its internal and external surfaces, as well as work of a fixing nature. In particular, fixing and cleaning of surfaces, sealing of cracks, welding of fragments, sealing of rainwater inflow points, removal of old seals and their replacement with new ones, partial replacement of clay tiles and roof stones were carried out. At the same time, for the static strengthening of the monument, a perimeter belt was placed at the bearing level of the roof plates, while an instrumental monitoring system was implemented for the critical cracks, the roof and the perimeter belt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the relief of the frieze with the eight figures of the winds, which showed extensive deterioration due to atmospheric pollution, the rescued information of the ancient surface was preserved, without supplementing the losses of the sculptural decoration and without removing the black deposits, so that it would not be lost the original, ancient surface. All the remains of paints and plasters, the Arabic inscriptions and the newest graphs inside the monument were preserved, while of great importance for its history was the discovery of fragments of painted decoration, ancient and Byzantine.
Inside the monument, which was open to the public for the first time, a walkway made of passable glass on a metal frame was installed. Finally, special care was taken to ensure accessibility, with the configuration of an entrance ramp and perimeter route for A.M.E.A. Finally, informational signs were placed and brochures were issued (Greek, English, Braille), where the history of the monument and the project are briefly presented.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
