The Ephorate of Antiquities of the City of Athens is a Regional Service of the Ministry of Culture under the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage.<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Based on the current Organization of the Ministry of Antiquities that came into effect on January 22, 2018 (Government Gazette 7\/A\/22.01.2018), the Ephorate of Antiquities of the City of Athens has its seat in Athens and its territorial jurisdiction is the Municipality of Athens.<\/span><\/p>\n

Within its borders are several of the largest and most important archaeological sites of the country – the archaeological sites <\/span>of Acropolis & it’s Slopes<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Ancient Agora-Areios Pagos<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Western Hills<\/span><\/a>\u00a0 (Muses-Pnyx-Nymphs), <\/span>Roman Agora<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Hadrian’s Library<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Kerameikos<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Lykeion<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Olympeion<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>Akadimia Platonos<\/span><\/a>, the <\/span>Herodeion<\/span><\/a>, with numerous events, the archaeological pedestrian streets (D. Areopagitou, Ap. Pavlou, Ermou) – as well as two archaeological museums – the Ancient Agora\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>and<\/span><\/span>\u00a0the Kerameikos.<\/span><\/p>\n

Its jurisdiction also includes the particularly important set of Byzantine monuments in the center of Athens (indicative <\/span>Agioi Theodoroi<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Kapnikarea<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Gorgoepikoos<\/span><\/a>, Soteira Kottaki, etc.), as well as many\u00a0 post-Byzantine and newer church monuments (indicative Panagia Chrysospiliotissa, Agia Irini etc.).<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the Organization, the Regional Services of GDAPK exercise their responsibilities locally within the boundaries of their regions, cooperate with the respective Directorates of the Central Service and the other Services of the <\/span>Ministry of Culture<\/span><\/a> \u00a0and carry out projects, which are included in the annual Operational Plans\u00a0<\/span>or Action Programs as approved by the Minister, after the opinion of the competent Councils.<\/span><\/p>\n

They also prepare the files for the introduction of the issues to the relevant Local Council of Monuments and draw up proposals to the relevant Directorates of the Central Service for the introduction of issues to the central advisory <\/span>bodies, as defined by the current legislation.<\/span><\/p>\n

The responsibilities transferred by the Minister of Culture to the Heads of the Regional and Special Regional Services under the jurisdiction of the GDAPC are specialized based on the relevant<\/span><\/p>\n
